ACIC 2020: New Regional Arm for Credit Reporting Industry

By: Communications & Marketing Department - SIMAH - 2020

The logo of 9th World Consumer Credit Reporting Conference 2014 (9th WCCRC 2014), an international credit gathering organized by Saudi Credit Bureau ( SIMAH) in cooperation with the Association of Consumer Credit Information Suppliers (ACCIS) and the Consumer Data Industry Association (CDIA) in 2014 in Dubai, was different from all previous logos for the conference. The logo was a Dallah (Arabic coffee pot); a metal pot with a long spout designed specifically for making Arabic coffee. In particular, it is used in the coffee tradition of the Arabian Peninsula.  Dallah is the Arabic name of the coffee pot that was made first in Baghdad, Iraq using brass or another alloy, and then it was made in Damascus, Syria after that by copying the Iraqi Dallah that was used by most of the Arabs. Serving coffee (gahwa) in GCC states is a sign of hospitality and generosity.

Traditionally, the coffee beans are roasted, cooled and ground in front of the guests using a mortar and pestle. The host would then add cardamom pods to the coffee beans during the grinding process. Once the coffee is brewed, it is poured for guests. Today, gahwa is not prepared in front of the guests; instead it is elegantly served in the Dallah and poured into small cups called Finjan. The idea of the Dallah is quite similar to the core business of SIMAH; information is gathered by SIMAH (serving as the Dallah) who in turn pours such information into credit reports (Finjan) to the members (guests).

With more than 320 delegates from more than 60 countries along with15 sponsors for the first time in the history of the conference, the two-day summit discussed a number of topics, including the growth of the credit bureau in the GCC region, the US and the EU data reporting standards and the latest trends in fraud and tools being used to prevent fraud and identity theft.

SIMAH made an initiative to the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) to organize First Arab Credit Information Conference (ACIC 2020). ACIC 2020 is fully owned by Arab Committee on Credit Information (ACCI). Initially, ACIC 2020 will be held in October or November every two years while the first edition will be in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
